Mary Vitamin for November 3rd

Saint John Eudes

Image by Niall McAuley via Flickr

Topic: The Wisdom of Mary

Quote:
St. Bernard
"Mary is rightly represented as clothed with the sun for she penetrated into the profound abyss of divine wisdom more deeply that we can think or believe, to such an extent indeed, that she seems to have become immersed in that inaccessible light, so far as it is possible for a creature who does not have a personal union with God."
St. John Eudes, The Admirable Heart of Mary, (Loreto Publications), 128.

Meditation:
St. John Eudes
"Our Lady possesses a special knowledge of those who are most devoted to her; she knows God's designs concerning them, the road they should follow to reach God, the state and dispositions of their souls, all the accidents that befall them, all their possible perils, the pains they suffer, interiorly and exteriorly. She knows the temptations that assail them, the evil schemes of their enemies and all their corporal and spiritual needs, so that she may assist, protect, defend and strengthen her faithful followers, obtain from her divine son the help they need most, and she herself the best of mothers to them."
St. John Eudes, The Admirable Heart of Mary, (Loreto Publications), 128.

Resolution:
The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us,
In the battle of prayer we must confront erroneous conceptions of prayer, various currents of thought, and our own experience of failure. We must respond with humility, trust, and perseverance to these temptations which cast doubt on the usefulness or even the possibility of prayer."

The words of St. John Eudes should help me to practice ardent entrustment to the Immaculate.Today,  I will begin trusting in my heavenly Mother with  my morning offering and then try to remember during the day that the Holy Mother of God is at my side willing and capable of helping me.

Marian Vow:
St. Maximilian Kolbe
"We belong to her, to the Immaculate. We are hers without limits,  most perfectly hers; we are, as it were, herself. Through our mediation she loves the good God. With our poor heart she loves her divine Son. We become the mediators through whom the Immaculate loves Jesus. And Jesus, considering us her property and, as it were, a part of his beloved Mother, loves her in us and through us. What a lovely mystery!"
Fr. Anselm W. Romb, OFM Conv. Ed., The Kolbe Reader, (Franciscan Marytown Press: 1987), 93-4

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, November 2, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A statute recognizing the personhood of human beings from the moment of conce

ption has been certified in Alaska.

"An Act Recognizing the Legal Personhood of All Human Beings Including Unborn Children" was introduced by 22-year-old local pro-life activist Christopher Kurka on August 24, and Lt. Governor Sean Parnell certified the application on October 22.  The initiative, which must gather over 32,000 signatures, will likely appear on

the 2012 primary ballot.

The act reads: "Be it enacted by the People of the State of Alaska that all human beings, from the beginning of their biological development as human organisms, including the single-cell embryo, regardless of age, health, level of functioning, condition of dependecy or method of reproduction, shall be recognized as legal persons in the state of Alaska."

Alaska joins several other U.S. states with active personhood initiatives, either in state legislatures or constitutional ballot initiatives.

Planned Parenthood of Alaska (PPAK) objected to the initiative by claiming that it would lead to women being investigated for miscarriages.

"Worst-case scenario is we might be in a situation where women or doctors would have to report if a woman had a miscarriage and then she might be investigated as to why," PPAK president Clover Simon told NBC 2.  "There are a lot of potential and unintended consequences for these initiatives and because we don't really know what they are until it's put into practice, I think it's kind of scary for women."

In a telephone interview with LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) Monday, Kurka called Planned Parenthood's objection "ludicrous."

"Even though they try to bring up all these distractions, they still have to focus on whether the unborn is a person, which is what the pro-life movement has needed to do," said Kurka.  "It's where we win the argument, it's where the real issue is.  It's not a ban on a procedure .... It's asking whether or not the unborn is a person, and is going to be protected like the rest of us."

The pro-lifer said that he was optimistic about the measure, pointing out the positive response even despite local news coverage he felt was negatively biased.

"Even though [the local media] did kind of a hatchet job, and they were quite biased, actually, I still got contacted by a lot of people who went through a lot of trouble to hunt me down because they wanted to sign the initiative," he said.  "I found that very encouraging."

Kurka, who has already been active in politics despite his youth, said he felt it was important for the statute to declare a recognition, rather than a definition, of personhood.

"It's dangerous for the state to define persons, because then the state is claiming they have the right to define them, rather than recognizing who persons are, and therefore protecting them," he said.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue notes that the 2009 war on Christmas has begun:

For almost three decades, there has been a Christmas parade in Amelia, Ohio, a village outside Cincinnati. But this year there will be none. That’s because one person complained, village solicitor Laura Abrams. Her complaint: the word “Christmas.” In response, the village changed the name to the “Holiday Parade,” though it did not say what holiday was being celebrated. Understandably, this dishonest scheme created a furor, the result being—just to play it safe—there will be no parade.

There will be no Christmas tree this year on the Capitol lawn in Frankfort, Kentucky. The word “Christmas” was deemed offensive. Instead, there will be a “Holiday Tree.” The official line is that the “Holiday Tree” is inclusive of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s, though no one has ever heard of a “Thanksgiving Tree,” “Hanukkah Tree” or “New Year’s Tree.”

When World War II ended, a local resident from Warren, Michigan decided to erect a nativity scene on a public median; the same family has privately maintained this tradition ever since. But there won’t be one this year because a lawsuit argues it is discriminatory.

In Olympia, Washington, religious displays have been banned inside municipal buildings. But outside the buildings, it is okay. Well, not really—atheists are already protesting that decision.

Arizona is supplying this year’s Christmas Tree in the nation’s Capitol. Attempts to bar students from making religious ornaments were defeated, but only because of a threatened lawsuit.

Make no mistake about it: The declared enemy of these cultural fascists is religious speech, and they will stop at nothing to censor it. Stay tuned—we’re only in early November.

**********************************************************************************

If all Christians would stand up together and respond to these attacks upon our Faith, these things would never happen, but instead, most people are too busy to defend Our Lord's Birthday and only celebrate Santa Claus instead!

It seems that we bring these things upon us by our in-action and the living out of Christianity in our daily lives. Let our few voices cry out together and lets "Keep Christ in Christmas!"

Bless us all+

The Paris Miracle

parisnighttraffic.jpg

I thought the traffic in Rome was wild. But I think Paris is crazier. We arrived in the center of the French capital with two full cars for a dinner with a member of the American Embassy. Parking spaces that night were as rare as snow in October, so myself and the other driver dropped off our human cargo, and began to drive around the block hoping for a space to open up. That’s when it happened. I lost site of the other car, took a wrong turn, and all of a sudden I was lost. Like an astronaut untethered in space, I began to be sucked away into the orbit of constant, unending, chaotic streams of Parisian traffic.

Rosa María Ordaz from Mexico is a volunteer for the Association Suma Tu voz, “Add your Voice”. While visiting Rome, she spoke to H2onews about the goal of this foundation that promotes the value of life and of the family:

“We are focused on the issue concerning babies who are not wanted by their mothers, who do not want to become mothers, who are advocating for their right to abortion -- and this is exactly what we are focused on. We want to persuade and convince them that we are going to respect their right, not the right to have an abortion, but that of not becoming a mother…
…This is a wonderful alternative, to tell the women: we respect your right to not be a mother, yes, but we are giving you the wonderful option of giving the child up for adoption.”

Rosa María Ordaz, who has also worked for pro-life foundations in the US, believes that women who have an abortion do so out of ignorance.

“The majority of women abort because of ignorance. They are unaware of the physical risks that an abortion entails.

I have seen the damage that abortion causes a woman, the psychological damage, the emotional damage, the spiritual damage -- how extensively it affects their lives.

Obviously, they are not aware that the decision that they are going to take -- a so-called free decision -- is also a decision that will tie them down and enslave them with wounds that, on a spiritual and emotional level, are very, very difficult to heal.

We add our voices and in this way we become the voices, or better said, the voice of the unborn, of the most innocent, of the most vulnerable.”

This association, founded back in 2008 in the city of León, Mexico, accepts all members who defend the right to life.

On Thursday, November 5, pro-life advocates from several states are coming to Washington DC to lobby members of Congress to vote "No" on the health care bill. After lobbying, they will proceed to Nancy Pelosi's office to stage a sit-in. They will crumple the entire health care bill one page at a time -- and leave the tattered bill on the floor. When asked to leave, they will refuse.

Missy Smith states: "If need be, we are willing to be arrested to highlight the horrifying injustice of Nancy Pelosi funding the murder of the innocent under the guise of 'health care.' Nancy Pelosi needs to hear loud and clear - WE WON'T PAY FOR MURDER!!"

STATEN ISLAND, NY, Nov. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, announced today that the video posted on his You Tube page ( www.YouTube.com/frfrankpavone) that describes a suction abortion has surpassed one million views.

"This is a reason to rejoice," said Fr. Pavone, "because one of the biggest problems we have regarding abortion is that it's hidden. Thanks to videos like this, people who think they are pro-choice become fervently pro-life. We receive testimonies literally every day about such conversions. We invite others to spread these videos."

The suction video, available at

www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBOAPleF1t0

illustrates the most common abortion procedure. In describing it, Fr. Frank quotes abortionists and medical texts, and uses fetal models with actual instruments used in abortions. It was originally posted in March of 2008.

Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro- life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.

Dear Deacon,

"Abortion may imperil health bill" screamed the
Washington Post headline this morning -- following

Don't stop calling your elected officials! Don't stop
e-mailing your representatives! The time is NOW to
tell Congress:

     "Remove all abortion funding and
     mandates from health care reform!"

Abortion is NOT health care, and our government
should NOT fund it.

In addition to listening to the webcast recording,
please also watch and forward this 2-minute video of
many of the pro-life leaders you heard from last
night talking about how crucial this battle is for
the pro-life movement:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RD7hJhwy5g

As you heard last night, if the health care bill
passes in its current form, it will be the largest
expansion of abortion on demand since Roe v. Wade.

THIS week is CRUCIAL!

If you haven't called your Member of Congress this
week, do it now. If you haven't e-mailed your member
of Congress this week, do it now.

ACTION ITEMS:

1.) Listen to the Stop the Abortion Mandate webcast
recording at:

http://www.StopTheAbortionMandate.com

2.) Contact your Representative and two Senators and
tell them to remove all abortion funding and mandates
from health care reform. Contact your Members here:

http://tinyurl.com/yg6jot5

3.) Spread the word about the abortion mandate in
health care reform by asking friends, family members,
co-workers, and fellow believes to watch this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RD7hJhwy5g

4.) Pray for our elected officials. Pray that our
nation -- founded on the inalienable right to life --
does not allow its government to fund the destruction
of human life at its most vulnerable stage.

I Was Born an Innocent Baby

2nd quarter of 17th century

God's Blue Book III Cover

May 5, 1994

R. The beginning is God-made-man, born of a virgin. He is held so lovingly in her arms. He is so perfect. She is filled with such love for Her beloved Son! The end of His life was her holding Him on her lap, His lifeless body in her arms after the world had done it's awful job on our beautiful Jesus, God-made-man!

Does this signify what this world is capable of, to take an innocent body and slaughter the baby in whatever way the world sees fit? Is this what this world is capable of? Does this world do this to our children? We are given this beautiful creation from God and look what the world does to God's creation!

But He rose to new life. He, God-made-man, was victorious. He rose and gave us new life. We, too, will rise to new life, despite the hatred of this world. Christ is victorious. The victory has been won. Death has no power over Him. Sin has no power over God. We will rise again. We will stand in glory if we stay fixed in Him. He is the victor. We are His chosen ones. It is in our commitment to follow Christ and His ways that we will be victorious. We will live forever! Alleluia. Alleluia.

Jesus: In all your struggles, keep your eyes on Me, My chosen ones. Live in My love. Stay rooted in Me. You will never die. Though heaven and earth pass away, not one letter of the law will pass away. I come that you might have life and have it more abundantly, not as this world gives you life, but as I give you life. Die to the world and live in Me. I am your Savior. I come that you will live.

R. Alleluia, Alleluia. And He gave them manna from heaven and they knew His might and His light shone on each of them and they were His descendants. They were His heirs to the kingdom. Alleluia. Jesus is Lord. Alleluia.

FIRST THINGS: Rome's Talks With the Lefebvrists Begin

FROM THE MAILBAG

Dave: My wife Peg and I visited Knock in September 2008. It was nice and quiet as their big celebration is in August. Unlike Medjugorje which can be a bit loud and have a lot of distractions, we found Knock to be very quiet and very reverent. It seem to attract the "Old type Catholics" of the west of Ireland who came for quiet devotion rather than any hoopla.

Our Lady's appearance in August of 1879 was very special to the Irish people. They were just starting to get back on their feet from the devastation of the potato famine and it was a sign from God that He had not abandoned them. The final push for national independence began close by to Knock with the National Land League. Within forty two years ( a biblical generation), the majority of Ireland would be on its way to full independence after centuries of oppression and occupation. It was as if Our Lady lit the torch of freedom at Knock to guide the Irish people to their destiny.

So, for your readers, if they want to visit a nice quiet place where devotion to Our Lady has been approved, then I would recommend Knock. If they are able, St Patrick's Mountain, Croagh Patrick is a 1/2 hour's drive away. I climbed it while my wife prayed for my safe return while shopping in the gift shop at the foot of the mountain......
